It seems the recent protest by women of Owukpa District, in Ogbadibo Local Government area, Benue State, has began to yield the desired resultz as miners of the Owukpa coal have reportedly began the construction of Ipole-Ukwo road.

Recall that more than 200 Owukpa women staged a peaceful demonstration over failure of miners to meet up with the Community social responsibilities, like relocation of the Owukpa Community School, construction of the Ipole-Ukwo road, digging of over 45 boreholes in all settlements, good hospitals, among others.

A source identified as John Oduh was quoted by a local Facebook newspaper, Information Ogbadibo, that the miners have started with the road construction which is one of the major social responsibilities.

The source said, the road was supposed to have been constructed since 2007 but the miners failed to keep to the agreement them entered with the community.

The source added that, the community stakeholders, miners and the women agreed on the road construction from Ipole-Owukpa to Ukwo-Owukpa Market.
