Benue govt sets committee to resolve overlap between ministry, examination board
The Benue State Government has set up a committee to resolve reported overlaps between the Ministry of Education and Knowledge Management and the Benue State Quality Assurance and Examination Board, particularly concerning the clearance of candidates for the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE).
The development follows concerns raised by education stakeholders about duplicated functions between the two bodies, which some feared could disrupt the upcoming examinations.
A statement signed by Dr Adamu Margaret Ijaguwa, Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, noted that Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, personally intervened in the matter and has directed the Chief of Staff to convene a meeting with relevant stakeholders, which was successfully held yesterday.
Following extensive deliberations, the meeting resolved that a committee be constituted to review the law merging the Benue State Quality Assurance and Examination Board, ensuring it aligns with the existing Education Law.
The committee will address all areas of overlap and work to strengthen quality assurance across the state’s education sector.
The government also assured the public that all school principals should continue to bring their candidates to the Ministry for clearance for the 2026 WASSCE examinations, and urged stakeholders to remain calm while the review process is ongoing.
“The Benue State Government is committed to ensuring that the education system operates efficiently and transparently,” the statement read.
“All critical stakeholders will be carried along as the committee works to streamline operations and improve quality assurance in the sector.”
The ministry expressed appreciation for the cooperation and understanding of education stakeholders as the state continues efforts to reposition education in Benue State.
