Benue gradaully sliding into dictatorship under Alia – PDP raises alarm

The Peoples Democratic Party in Benue State has issued a stern rebuke against Governor Hyacinth Alia, alleging a descent into anarchy amid the indefinite suspension of APC officials.

A statement released by the party’s spokesperson, Bemgba Iortyom, the PDP expressed deep concern over what it perceives as a growing state of anarchy under the current leadership of Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The party specifically criticized the indefinite suspension of Kwande Local Government Area (LGA) Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Terdoo Kenti, and members of his Executive Committee.

Iortyom condemned the suspension as an aberration, highlighting it as evidence of the governor’s disregard for democratic norms and leadership incompetence. According to the PDP spokesperson, the suspension of Mr. Kenti is part of Governor Alia’s alleged dictatorial tendencies aimed at subverting constitutional order within the state.

The PDP representative added that the APC’s dismissal of the suspension holds no consequence, and he argued that such actions only serve to undermine democratic principles in the state. Mr. Iortyom went on to describe the suspension order by Revd. Fr. Hule in Kwande as “bizarre” and likened it to the purported lawless style of Governor Alia in the capital, Makurdi.

Iortyom expressed regret that such incidents contribute to the perception that certain leaders, including Catholic priests like Revd. Fr. Hule, are unsuitable for political leadership within the liberal democratic framework.
