Benue South rerun: Dan Onjeh floors David Mark in online poll

​Ahead of the 2016 rerun in Benue South senatorial district, the social media community in the area has settled for the candidacy of Daniel Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

An online poll conducted by Idoma Voice, a community tabloid, saw over 55 percent of readers rooting for Onjeh as the next bearer of Idoma political ark, 30 percent went for former Senate President, David Mark (PDP), while 15 percent were against both of them.

A statement by Ekre Christian, Special Project Director of the newspaper explained that the online poll was informed by the ongoing debates in some quarters over who should pilot the political ship of Idoma community following the nullification of Mark’s election by the Appellate Court.
While many saw the immediate past Senate President as still the right man for the job, others are of the opinion that Onjeh, a former students’ unionist leader should step in.

“Prompted by these debates, our platform (idomavoice.com) decided to conduct an online poll, asking readers to choose between Onjeh and Mark; who should represent the Zone C at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.

“This particular poll which came on stream on Friday, December 11, was closed by 11:58 pm (local time) on Friday, December 18, 2015. Between the time frame, there were a total of 2,567 clicks on the options that answer the questions asked. Out of these clicks, 1,443 went for Daniel Onjeh. 985 went for David Mark while 139 persons clicked on ‘None of the above’ option.

“For the comments generated by the poll, a total of 1,344 were collated. They were gathered from our Facebook pages, Idoma groups were the opinion was shared, Twitter handle and other social media platforms dominated by Zone C natives.

“The figure ultimately trimmed to 1,166 valid comments when scrutinized by the editorial board.

“From these valid comments, 628 went for Onjeh, 409 went for Mark, while 129 others were indifference,” Ekre who acted as the Poll Monitor said.

He added that the result was just the opinion of Idoma Voice readers and not that of the newspaper.​
