Benue will stand solidly behind Tinubu come 2027 – Akume
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has declared that Benue State will stand solidly behind President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Akume made the declaration during the inauguration of the President Bola Tinubu Support Group 2027 in Makurdi, where he was represented by Senator Jacob Gyado.
The SGF said President Tinubu had already earned the confidence of Nigerians through the implementation of bold reforms and projects designed to improve the lives of citizens.
“President Tinubu has secured the confidence of Nigerians through policies and projects that directly impact the people,” Akume stated. “Benue and the entire North-Central region will stand solidly behind him come 2027.”
He also urged young people to respect political mentorship and wait for their time, noting that leadership is built through experience.
“The Tiv people too must have a political leader; let the youths wait for their time. You can’t start school today and become a professor today. When the time comes, we will speak with you,” he said. “I have produced three governors consecutively and several senators. Any wise politician should know who to follow.”
Representing Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senator Titus Zam commended President Tinubu for appointing the first-ever SGF from the North-Central region, describing it as a milestone in inclusive governance.
“Tinubu is the best thing that has happened to this country,” Zam said. “Students are already benefiting from the Education Loan Fund, and governors now access more funds for development following the removal of fuel subsidy. The list of achievements is endless.”
In a goodwill message delivered by Hon. Dickson Tarkigir (Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency), the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, urged Nigerian youths to embrace peaceful and progressive politics.
“President Tinubu has special love for the people of Benue,” the Speaker noted, assuring that the administration remains committed to the development of the region.
Chairman of the Benue APC Elders Council, Chief Simon Shango, decried the lingering leadership crisis within the state chapter of the party, describing it as a hindrance to internal democracy.
“In my over 80 years of existence, I have never seen a situation where elected state party officials have no place to work,” Shango lamented. “While other states are enjoying democracy, Benue is an exception. There’s a need for change in 2027.”
Convener of the event, Mr. Mathias Byuan, said President Tinubu had demonstrated clear commitment to Benue’s progress through the appointment of 24 indigenes into key federal positions, including the SGF.
He also listed ongoing federal projects such as the Wurukum flyover in Makurdi, the River Buruku bridge, and several road and electrification projects across the state.
“Benue and the North-Central have every reason to support President Tinubu,” Byuan said. “He has shown leadership, inclusiveness, and a strong desire to transform Nigeria.”
