Boko Haram strikes Yobe, kills villagers, sets houses on fire

Gunmen believed to be Boko Haram insurgents raided Mafa village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, looting and setting ablaze houses and shops.

According to DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the Yobe Police Command, the attack occurred around 4 p.m. on Sunday. Although the exact number of casualties remains unknown, Abdulkarim mentioned that many lives were likely lost in the incident, which was reported to the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Station by local residents Babagana Goni and Bako Ibrahim.

“Suspected Boko Haram terrorists, armed with rifles and RPGs, attacked Mafa Ward on over 50 motorcycles, setting fire to numerous shops and homes,” Abdulkarim stated.

He also noted that the attackers left behind fliers with Arabic inscriptions. The police are still working to confirm the total number of casualties.
