The Benue State University, Makurdi, has officially joined the ongoing one month warning strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

The Benue varsity, which earlier shunned the industrial action has announced its decision to down tools.

This was contained in a statement obtained by IDOMA VOICE on Wednesday.

The statement signed by the Dr. Mfaga Modom, Registrar called on students to remain calm and continue to study for completion of first semester 2020/2021 examinations.

The statement reads below;

 This is to inform all students of Benue State University that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU-BSU) has joined the nation-wide (one month) warning strike action embarked upon by the National body of the Union with effect from Monday, 14’h February, 2022.
Students are hereby advised to remain calm and continue to study for completion of first semester 2020/2021 examinations.
The University Management wishes to inform students that in the interim, Management will continue to constructively engage the Union to grant a waiver to Benue State University to enable them complete their examinations.
Further information will be conveyed to students in due course.
Thank you.

IDOMA VOICE reports that the battle of wits between ASUU and the Federal Government is hinged on the revitalisation of public universities, earned academic allowances, University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) promotion arrears, implementation of the renegotiated 2009 ASUU-FGN agreement and discrepancies in the implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system (IPPIS).

While ASUU has consistently criticised the government of breaching previous negotiations and agreements, the latter has accused ASUU of forcing it to enter into such pact under duress.
