Gunmen suspected to be terrorists launched a deadly assault on Morai town in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Monday night, leaving at least four people dead and several others kidnapped.

Among those killed was Saminu Morai, a former sole administrator of Talata Mafara Local Government, alongside three other residents. Witnesses described the attack as sudden and brutal, plunging the town into panic and confusion.

Speaking with SaharaReporters, a resident recounted how heavily armed men stormed the community late at night, opening fire and abducting scores of locals. “They attacked Morai town last night and killed the former administrator, Saminu Morai, and three others. Many people were also taken away,” the source confirmed.

In the aftermath, the Emir of Talata Mafara and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area reportedly attended the funeral prayers and burials of the victims, conducted in accordance with Islamic customs.

As of press time, the Zamfara State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, and the exact number of abducted residents remains uncertain.

Zamfara State has long grappled with violent attacks by armed groups locally referred to as bandits, who routinely carry out killings, abductions, and raids on rural communities. Monday’s attack adds to the rising toll of casualties in a region battling persistent insecurity and weak government presence.

Residents of Morai town remain in fear as the search for the abducted victims and efforts to restore calm continue.
