British Council raises IELTS fee for Nigerians

The British Council in Nigeria has declared another hike in fees for the English Language Testing System (IELTS) examinations, marking the second increase in the last five months.

Starting February 1, 2024, applicants will need to pay N139,000 for both the Computer Academic and General Training Modules.

The British Council attributes this adjustment to the escalating costs associated with conducting the examinations.

IELTS is widely acknowledged globally as a gauge of language proficiency for non-native English speakers.

In an official notice on their website, the council stated, “We wish to inform you that there has been a reassessment of our IELTS fees. The new pricing for the IELTS range of tests provided by the British Council will be applicable for registrations on or after February 1, 2024.”

The notice further clarified that the change in price is a response to the increased expenses of administering the exams.

“This adjustment is anticipated to facilitate the continuation of a diverse range of services and comprehensive support for individuals striving to achieve their language proficiency goals,” it added.

This latest increase follows the previous adjustment in September 2023, when the fee rose from a range of N80,000 to N90,000 to the current N107,500.

The British Council expressed appreciation to applicants and underscored their dedication to delivering valuable services.
