COVID-19: Plateau Governor hails JEDC for supplying 16-hour electricity daily

By Yemi ItodoFor supplying constant electricity to residents of Plateau in this period of sit-at-home occasioned by the spread of Corona Virus; the management of Jos Electricity Distribution PLC (JEDC) has received commendations from the state government.The commendation was expressed by the Secretary to Plateau State Government (SSG), Prof. Danladi Atu, on behalf of Governor Simon Lalong, on Saturday, while receiving the management of JEDC in Jos.The Government hailed the Management of JEDC for constantly giving a minimum of 16 hours supply to residence of Jos metropolis and its environs, despite the many challenges confronting the company.”We are aware of certain challenges impeding your business, such as vandalism, energy theft and several other factors bedeviling your system, yet, we still experience 16 hours of daily supply within the city of Jos and its environs. And we are positive that the JED PLC team with its capacity and tenancy will continue to deliver quality service to the good people of Plateau”, Prof. Atu said.He disclosed that the Governor was ready to support the company in its quest to constantly supply energy to the people of Plateau State.Earlier in their separate remarks, the Regional Manager of Jos Metro, Aliyu Aminu Abba and that of Bukuru, Olaniyi Ogunmakinwa, expressed satisfaction over the way the state government had set machineries in place to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in Plateau, pledging to give continuous support to the Governor.They disclosed that, as its modest attempt in supporting the government, the company would be giving steady supply based on energy at its disposal.”We will maintain regular supply to our customers based on availability this period of sit-at-home, so as to help reduce the boredoms as staying in one place could be very stressful without light”, said one of the Regional Managers.The Company commended the state government for living up to its statutory responsibility of championing the health course of the people, saying, “the state government has so far performed creditably well in the fight against this hydra-headed monster called Corona Virus”.A statement signed by the Head, Corporate Communications of JEDC, Dr Friday Adakole Elijah, said the company also donated some safety materials to the Government of Plateau, Benue, Bauchi and Gombe States, to help in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.Dr. Elijah said the materials, which were mostly hand sanitizers, face masks, Liquid hands Wash, buckets, Hand gloves and Hypo, were presented on behalf of the company by its Regional Managers in Plateau, Bauchi and Gombe States.In a related development, the Gombe State taskforce on the spread of Corona Virus also thanked the Management of Jos Electricity Distribution PLC for donating some materials aimed at combating the spread of pandemic in the state.Speaking during the presentation of the materials by the Regional Manager, Sani Hamza, on behalf of the company, the Chairman of Gombe Taskforce, Professor Idris Mohammed, who was visibly elated by the company’s gesture, said the received items would be put to judicious use.
