Details of IGP Egbetokun’s meeting with EFCC Boss, Olukoyede emerge
Details have emerged regarding the meeting between the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede.
As previously reported by Naija News, the heads of the two organizations convened at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday. During the meeting, IGP Egbetokun praised the EFCC Chairman for his commendable efforts in combating economic and financial crimes and other forms of corruption since assuming office, emphasizing his effective performance in the role.
The Police chief also disclosed that President Bola Tinubu holds a high level of confidence in Olukoyede. Egbetokun stated, “I warmly welcome you and congratulate you on your appointment. You are doing well, and Mr. President has a lot of confidence in you.”
Expressing satisfaction with the EFCC’s accomplishments, the IGP characterized the Commission as a “good child of the Police” and assured continued support for its endeavors. “We are proud to have the EFCC as our child. We will continue to support you,” he affirmed.
In his earlier address, Olukoyede commended the Police for nurturing the EFCC from its inception and expressed satisfaction with the existing synergy between the two agencies. “We are proud of the nurturing we received from the Police and solicit more support, cooperation, and collaboration given the specialized nature of our works,” he remarked.
Drawing attention to the necessity for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Police and the EFCC to address issues of overlapping operations, Olukoyede stated, “There is no need to dissipate energy investigating similar cases. We can come up with an MoU to properly address such issues.” He emphasized the importance of better mutual understanding and pledged that the EFCC would continue leveraging its relationship with the Police for enhanced collaboration.
