Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has terminated the appointment of Nicholas Odamah as Regent of Ikpeshi/Egbegere Clan in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area and restored Zaiki Luckman Momodu Odamah III as the traditional ruler.

The decision was announced in a letter dated October 20, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.

Odamah was appointed regent on November 13, 2025, after the state government removed Luckman Momodu Odamah III amid disputes over traditional leadership in the clan.

His appointment was intended to be temporary, pending the determination of the rightful occupant of the throne.

However, the government said it reviewed its earlier decision following appeals from concerned indigenes of Akoko-Edo and confirmation that the leadership dispute was already before a competent court.

The letter stated that the government had consequently terminated Odamah’s appointment and restored the previous status of the traditional institution.

It also disclosed that security agencies had been notified of the decision and directed to maintain peace, protect lives and property, and ensure law and order in the affected communities.

The government urged all parties to remain calm, exercise restraint and allow the judicial process to run its course.

It reaffirmed its commitment to justice, the rule of law and the preservation of traditional institutions in Edo State.
