Former FCT Minister, Jeremiah Useni dies after prolonged illness

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, has passed away after a prolonged illness.
Reports indicate that Useni died on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, confirmed the news through a statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.
Governor Mutfwang described Useni’s death as a significant loss not only to his family but also to the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the nation as a whole. He highlighted Useni’s outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to public service, noting the late General’s profound contributions to Nigeria’s security and political development.
He stated that Useni’s efforts to promote peace and stability, particularly in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State, would remain a lasting legacy.
Reflecting on Useni’s career, Mutfwang praised his exemplary service in various roles, including Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT.
“After retiring from the military, General Useni continued to serve the nation through politics,” Mutfwang noted. “He served as Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and was elected Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District in 2015 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).”
Mutfwang further emphasized Useni’s life of compassion, kindness, and generosity, recognizing his dedication to improving the lives of others.
“On behalf of my family, the government, and the peace-loving people of Plateau State, I extend heartfelt condolences to the President, the Nigerian Armed Forces, his immediate family, and everyone mourning the passing of this esteemed elder statesman,” the governor said.
