The President of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA Olamide Apata, has faulted the clampdown on protesters and supports of End SARS movements by the Nigerian government.
Recall that the federal high court in Abuja on Friday granted a prayer by Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN seeking to freeze the accounts of 19 individuals and a public affairs company linked to the EndSARS protests.
Justice Ahmed Mohammed directed all head offices of Access Bank, Fidelity Bank, First Bank Nigeria, Guaranty Trust Bank, United Bank of Africa, and Zenith Bank, to freeze all transactions on the 20 accounts on the list for a period of 180 days pending the outcome of investigation and inquiry conducted by CBN.
Those affected were Bolatito Racheal Oduala, Chima David Ibebunjoh, Mary Doose Kpengwa, Saadat Temitope Bibi, Bassey Victor Israel, Wisdom Busaosowo Obi, Nicholas Ikhalea Osazele, Ebere Idibie, Akintomide Lanre Yusuf, Uhuo Ezenwanyi Promise and Mosopefoluwa Odeseye.
However, Apata, said it was a wrong move, adding that lawyers are not smiling over the development.
His tweet read: “Lawyers are not smiling about goings-on after #ENDSARS protests. @djswitch_ goes into hiding after receiving phone threats, @moeodele passport seized -‘s she can’t travel, @savvyrinu et al accounts frozen by CBN.
“This was not the deal. #wrongmove #breachoftrust.”
