The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has openly declared that apart from God, his unwavering loyalty lies solely with President Bola Tinubu, adding that he takes directives from no one else.

Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Umahi made the statement in response to the president’s recent commendation of his performance in the infrastructure sector. The minister described the praise as “worth more than one trillion dollars,” stating it was confirmation that he was on the right path and that “God truly answers prayers.”

“I have told the president, even publicly, that my loyalty is first to God, and then to him,” Umahi affirmed.

He further emphasized the deep trust President Tinubu has placed in him, warning that to betray such confidence would be an act of grave moral failure.

“When a man gives you the kind of trust President Tinubu has given me, you would have to be of the devil to betray him,” he stated.

Umahi went on to caution that anyone who dares to betray the president after enjoying his unwavering support would surely face divine consequences.

“Have you seen where a man presided over a procurement process for a project worth ₦1.6 trillion, and his boss never questioned how it was handled?” Umahi asked, referencing a section of a major national project under his supervision.

The minister also offered a fervent prayer, saying: “I pray every day that if I ever put myself, my family, or my friends above God, President Tinubu, and Nigerians, let God never answer my prayers.”

Expressing continued commitment, Umahi pledged to keep praying for the president and for those who support the national development efforts.

“I dedicate the president’s commendation to everyone praying for me to succeed in serving the people,” he said.

Looking ahead, the minister revealed that Tinubu’s public endorsement has motivated contractors to work with increased diligence, aiming for the completion of 30 major projects by December 20.

“These projects are spread across the six geo-political zones, and I am fully involved in their inspection and construction,” Umahi added.
