‘He died before His Holiness’ – Rev King’s church members react to Justice Ngwuta’s death

Some members of the Christian Praying Assembly seem to be celebrating the death of renowned jury, Justice Sylvester Nwali Ngwuta.

IDOMA VOICE reports that Justice Ngwuta died on Sunday in his sleep in his Abuja residence at the age of 70.

Justice Ngwuta is known for his judgement which upheld the sentence of controversial pastor, His Holiness, Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, also known as Rev Kings to death by hanging.

On 26 September 2016, Ezeugo was arraigned before the Lagos High Court on 6 charges of murder and attempted murder.

He was arrested and charged to court primarily due to the murder of Ann Uzo, one of his members, to which he pled ‘not guilty’, as she was said to have died as a result of Ezeugo setting her on fire, with eye witnesses saying he did it because he caught the victim in the act of fornication.

In whole, a total of 10 witnesses came forward, testifying that Ezeugo was the perpetrator. The lawyer defending Ezeugo debunked the statements of the 10 witnesses, pointing out the discrepancies in their statements, which, however, were true, the witnesses made some contradicting statements to their earlier statements.

These errors were however too little to prove anything substantial as the presiding judge, Justice Joseph Oyewole, of The Lagos High Court Ikeja, on 11 January 2007 found him guilty of the murder of Ann Uzoh and sentenced him to death by hanging, plus 20 years for attempted murder.

On 26 February 2017, the Supreme Court of Nigeria unanimously upheld the previous guilty ruling of the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal and the initial court that tried Ezeugo, along with the sentence of death by hanging, with Justice Ngwuta remarking that “the facts of the case could have been lifted from a horror film.”

Four years after the well-applauded judgement, Justice Ngwuta went the way of all mortals few months to his retirement.

Following his death, some members of the church are happy that the man who wanted this leader to die is now dead.

A visit to the church headquarters located on at 1, CPA Base off Bishop Ojo Drive by Ugo Nnabuife Street, Ajao Estate along Oshodi-Airport Road, Lagos on Sunday by IDOMA VOICE team saw some members of the church rejoicing on hearing the news of the justice demise.

Oure reporters saw three women at the church laughing while reading comments about the late jury on social media.

“It is a case of the hunter being hunted. Our Lord and King, Rev King lives forever. No one can touch the Lord’s anointed and go scot-free. One by one, those who pass the biased judgments on him will go down,” one of the women, who was repeatedly called Joy could be heard saying.
