Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency is set for a major political shake-up as Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca, has formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking at his declaration ceremony, OmoBarca said his decision to enter the race was motivated by his commitment to grassroots empowerment and his desire to ensure that federal representation translates into real benefits for the people of his constituency.

“I am stepping into this race with the sole aim of empowering my people in Ajeromi-Ifelodun,” he said. “I want to see a constituency where youths have access to jobs and skills, women are supported in business, and children have better access to education. That is the kind of representation I intend to bring to Abuja.”

He further appealed to political opponents to allow the will of the people to prevail, urging a focus on service rather than post-election litigations. “I want to win this election on the strength of the people’s support. I don’t want any contestant to drag me to court if I emerge victorious. Let us respect the mandate of the electorate and focus on building our communities together,” he stated.

Welcoming OmoBarca into the ADC, former Minister of Interior, Hon. Rauf Aregbesola, described him as a grassroots politician with a strong record of philanthropy and community service. He assured party members that his entry would strengthen the ADC’s chances in Lagos State, especially in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, which has long been dominated by other major parties.

Also speaking, Labour Party’s former governorship candidate in Lagos, Hon. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, hailed OmoBarca’s courage and consistency, urging residents to rally behind him for credible representation at the National Assembly.

The event also featured the formal inauguration of OmoBarca’s campaign team, with hundreds of supporters pledging loyalty to his candidacy and describing his move as a “game-changer” for the constituency.

With the 2027 general elections drawing closer, political observers say OmoBarca’s entry has added a new twist to the fierce contest for the House of Representatives seat in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, setting the stage for what could be one of Lagos State’s most competitive races.
