In Kano State, Northeast Nigeria, Muslim faithful at Farm Centre GSM Market have been prohibited from pasting pictures and playing or listening to the songs of music star, Davido, due to allegations of blasphemy against the religion of Allah. The ban was announced by an authorized representative of the market’s leader, Hassan Abubakar Bawasa, who warned of decisive sanctions for any defaulter.

The ban was imposed in response to Davido’s recent video trailer of his signee, Logo Olori’s latest music video, ‘Jaye Lo,’ which featured men dressed as praying Muslims dancing in front of a mosque. This led to an outcry among Muslims, including former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, and popular Nollywood actor, Ali Nuhu. They considered the video offensive to their religion and called for its removal and an apology from Davido.

The Chairman of Farm Centre GSM Market in Kano, Hassan Bawasa, spearheaded the ban, and the announcer went around the market with a megaphone, conveying the message in Hausa. The ban prohibits the display of Davido’s pictures in shops and the playing or sharing of his music or videos within the market premises.
