10 rescued as JTF foils abduction attempts in Zamfara

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued 10 people and foiled two abduction attempts in Zamfara State.

The operations took place on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in Maru and Tsafe Local Government Areas.

In Maru, Sector 2 troops rescued four villagers abducted by terrorists in Kade Daba village, Kanoma District.

The Media Information Officer of JTF North-West, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said the troops received information about the abduction and quickly moved into the area.

The troops engaged the terrorists and rescued three victims. They later searched the area and found another victim, bringing the total number rescued to four.

In a separate incident, troops conducting a picketing operation along the Tsafe-Funtua Road heard gunshots near Kwanoni.

Danja said the troops moved towards the location and encountered terrorists retreating through the surrounding high ground.

The soldiers engaged the attackers and forced them to flee.

The terrorists had earlier set a Sharon vehicle ablaze while trying to abduct its occupants. However, the occupants escaped before the fire consumed the vehicle.

Six other people escaped from danger after their vehicle lost control during the shooting. The troops rescued them from the scene.

The troops later moved the affected vehicle off the road to restore traffic flow.

The JTF theatre commander praised the troops for their vigilance and swift response. He also commended their efforts to protect civilians along major roads and communities.

He said the task force would sustain offensive operations against terrorists and restrict their movement across the North-West.

The commander urged residents to report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies through official channels.
