Benue 2027: Idoma governorship hope gets boost as INEC restores Matthew Ochigbo

The chances of the Idoma people producing the next governor of Benue State in 2027 have received a boost following the restoration of the name of the National Democratic Party, NDP, governorship candidate, Matthew Ochigbo, on the list of cleared candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Ochigbo’s name was initially missing from the list, raising concerns about his participation in the 2027 governorship race.

However, speaking with Idoma Voice, Ochigbo said the omission was an error by the electoral umpire which had now been corrected.

“It was an error, and INEC has corrected it. My name has now been restored on the list, and we are fully ready for the task ahead.

“My team and I are ready to capture Benue State from Governor Hyacinth Alia in 2027. We are confident and determined to bring the desired change to the state,” he said.

The development is seen as a boost to the growing agitation for an Idoma governor, with political stakeholders from Benue South, Zone C, intensifying calls for the zone to produce the state’s next governor.
