Jungle Justice: Otukpo residents burn suspected motorcycle thief to death
An enraged mob in Otukpo, Benue State, set ablaze an unidentified individual suspected of motorcycle theft at the prominent Otukpo main roundabout.
According to an anonymous eyewitness who shared their account with Daily Post, the alleged thief had brazenly snatched a motorcycle from its owner. However, his luck took a turn for the worse when the stolen motorcycle ran out of fuel, leaving him stranded at the scene.
The eyewitness went on to explain that some local motorcycle taxi operators swiftly pursued the suspected criminal, ultimately cornering him at the Otukpo roundabout. The mob that had gathered then took the law into their own hands, subjecting the suspect to a severe beating before resorting to a gruesome act: setting him on fire.
It has been suggested that the suspect is a well-known motorcycle thief hailing from Odejo in Agatu Local Government Area of the state.
The burnt remains of the individual lay exposed at the Otukpo main roundabout throughout the day, with passersby unable to identify the charred body at the time of this report.
This alarming incident comes in the wake of recent security challenges in Otukpo, including a brazen attack by armed robbers targeting commercial banks, which resulted in casualties, including the loss of lives and security personnel.
Efforts to reach the Benue State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, were unsuccessful as of the time of this report. The situation in Otukpo remains tense, and local authorities are urged to address the security concerns in the area.
