Liverpool have initiated contact over a potential summer move for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman as they prepare for the possible departure of Mohamed Salah.

According to Sky Sports Switzerland, the Reds have taken concrete steps toward signing the 27-year-old Atalanta star, who has been in outstanding form this season, registering 17 goals and seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.

Arsenal have also expressed interest in the reigning CAF Player of the Year, but their pursuit has not advanced as far as Liverpool’s. The Merseyside club see Lookman as a strong candidate to fill the void if Salah leaves Anfield at the end of the season.

Speculation surrounding Lookman’s future at Atalanta has intensified following a public clash with manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who criticised the Nigerian after he missed a penalty in their Champions League loss to Club Brugge.

The Italian club are reportedly open to selling Lookman if they receive offers in the region of €65m (£53.8m), with several top European clubs closely monitoring his situation.

Liverpool are not alone in their pursuit, with Newcastle United and Manchester United also tracking Lookman. According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle have already sent scouts to observe the forward, intrigued by his versatility to play both as a winger and a central striker.

Since arriving at Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022, the former Everton player has established himself as one of Serie A’s most lethal attackers, amassing 49 goals and 23 assists in 107 matches for La Dea.
