1. The Kaduna State House of Assembly has indicted former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and key members of his administration for alleged corruption linked to contract awards and loan management during his eight-year tenure. This conclusion followed a thorough investigation by an ad hoc committee tasked with probing El-Rufai’s governance from May 2015 to May 2023.

   The committee’s chairman, Henry Danjuma, presented a report outlining multiple instances of alleged corruption within state government ministries, departments, and agencies. The investigation specifically scrutinized the handling of domestic and foreign loans, uncovering significant discrepancies and mismanagement.

2. Eleven individuals, including seven mobile police officers and four civilians, were killed in a terror attack on the Magarya community in the Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. 

   According to Daily Post, the bandits destroyed three cars, including one belonging to the district head of Magarya, the brother of Nasir Magarya, the former speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly. Additionally, chairs in the former speaker’s house were set on fire.

3. On Thursday, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, held a meeting with President Bola Tinubu regarding the ongoing discussions about a new national minimum wage. The meeting, which took place at the State House in Abuja, also included the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu.

   During the meeting, Edun presented a new minimum wage proposal to President Tinubu, meeting the 48-hour deadline previously set for him. After the meeting, Edun addressed the press, assuring that “there is no cause for alarm,” but he did not disclose further details.

4. The National Orientation Agency (NOA) unveiled the approved version of the reintroduced national anthem on Wednesday, June 5. The agency emphasized the importance of paying attention to the specific wording in lines three and five of the anthem.

   According to report, President Bola Tinubu signed a bill on May 29 to revert to the old national anthem. Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director-General of the NOA, presented the standardized version of the anthem in Abuja, explaining that the goal is to ensure the lyrics remain consistent.

5. The presidency on Thursday declared that some leaked documents on fiscal policy proposals by the federal government, which have gone viral on social media do not reflect the official position of the government on such matters.

   The presidency, in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the documents which have gone viral are only proposals and drafts which have not been given final approval by the President.

6. The presidency has denied trending reports that the federal government is proposing a new minimum wage of ₦105,000 for Nigerian workers.

   The denial was made in a short statement on Thursday evening by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

7. Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, has levelled serious allegations against President Bola Tinubu’s administration regarding the management of petrol subsidy funds.

   In a forthright statement issued yesterday, Atiku criticized the Tinubu administration for its lack of transparency concerning petrol subsidy expenditures, suggesting that funds are being diverted covertly.

8. The legal team representing the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has submitted nine judgements on the matter to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

   The leader of the team, Barrister Nnaemeka Ejiofor, informed journalists on Thursday that the judgements were issued by both domestic and international courts, ordering Kanu’s release.

9. The Nigerian Senate on Thursday, June 6, passed the “National Anti-Doping Bill 2024.”

   This legislation, requested by President Bola Tinubu, seeks to prohibit Nigerian athletes’ consumption of performance-enhancing substances both during and after sporting competitions.

10. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on Thursday said Nigerians should stop shouting about the fuel subsidy removal policy of President Bola Tinubu.

    According to him, it is a well-intended policy which may seem hard at the moment but would yield positive results.
