popular Nigerian singer Kingsley Okonkwo, known as Kcee, shared his motivations for switching from pop to cultural music. The 44-year-old artist expressed his desire to promote and celebrate the rich Igbo culture on a global platform.

Kcee’s foray into cultural music began taking shape in 2018, and since then, he has been dedicated to honing his craft in this new direction. Explaining his journey, he said, “The inspiration for cultural music didn’t come overnight. I had been working towards it for several years, around four to five years. In 2018, I started contemplating how I could bring the essence of Igbo culture to the world. That’s when I delved into cultural music. Although my previous work focused on pop, I discovered the allure of cultural music and decided to infuse my pop style into it to reach a global audience. It has been a gradual process, starting with a few cultural songs and cultural praise until I arrived where I am today.”

Kcee admitted that initially, some doubted his move into the cultural genre, but he is thrilled that it has proven to be a successful transition. Presently, he is making waves with his cultural-themed hit song titled ‘Ojapiano,’ a testament to his dedication in sharing the beauty of Igbo culture with the world.
