A 41-year-old Nigerian woman, Franca Wilson, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment with hard labour in Ghana for attempting to obtain a Ghanaian passport using forged nationality documents.

The conviction was confirmed by the Ghana Immigration Service in a report published by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation on Thursday.

According to earlier reports by Citi Newsroom, Wilson, a welder, pleaded guilty before the Adabraka District Court in Accra on May 12, 2026.

The court sentenced her on three separate counts, ordering that all the six-month jail terms run concurrently.

Reports said Wilson was arrested on April 24, 2026, at the Accra Passport Application Centre after immigration officials discovered inconsistencies in the nationality documents she submitted during screening.

The Ghana Immigration Service said she was later handed over to the National Enforcement Department at the agency’s headquarters for further investigations.

Investigations reportedly revealed that Wilson is a Nigerian from Rivers State and was born to Nigerian parents.

Authorities alleged that she presented a forged birth certificate claiming she was born in Somanya in Ghana’s Eastern Region to a Ghanaian mother.

The immigration agency added that during questioning, Wilson could not provide verifiable information about the alleged Ghanaian parent listed in the documents used for the passport application.
