NiMet predicts rain, thunderstorms across Nigeria from Wednesday to Friday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather alert, warning of likely thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country from Wednesday, June 11 to Friday, June 13, 2025.
In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet predicted early morning thunderstorms on Wednesday in parts of Taraba, Kaduna, and Adamawa States in the northern region. Later in the day, Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Gombe, and Bauchi are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall.
In the North-Central region, early morning thunderstorms are expected in Benue, Kwara, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Nasarawa. Thunderstorms with rain are also anticipated later in the day across the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, and Plateau States.
A cloudy morning is forecast in the southern region, with chances of rain in parts of Ondo, Ekiti, and Edo. Later in the afternoon and evening, isolated thunderstorms and rainfall are expected over parts of Imo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Rivers States.
For Thursday, NiMet forecasts morning thunderstorms in Kaduna, Kebbi, Zamfara, Adamawa, and Taraba. By the afternoon and evening hours, Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kano, Gombe, and Bauchi may experience continued thunderstorms with rain. The North-Central region will have cloudy conditions with sunshine intervals and early morning thunderstorms in parts of Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, and the FCT. Later in the day, storms are expected in the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau States.
In the South, morning storms are likely over Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States. Isolated thunderstorms with rainfall are expected later in the day across most southern states, including Lagos.
On Friday, morning thunderstorms are forecast in parts of Jigawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Taraba in the northern region. In the afternoon and evening, more rain and storms are anticipated in Taraba, Adamawa, Kano, Kaduna, and Bauchi. The North-Central region is expected to experience a mix of cloudy skies and sunshine, with storms likely in the FCT, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Niger, and further rainfall in Kwara, Benue, and Kogi later in the day. The South will begin the day with cloudy conditions and morning rain in Oyo, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River, followed by widespread thunderstorms later in the day.
NiMet warned that strong winds may precede the thunderstorms and advised the public to take necessary precautions. Residents are urged to secure loose objects to prevent damage, avoid driving during heavy rain, disconnect electrical appliances during storms, and stay away from tall trees to avoid falling branches.
