Hensard University, Bayelsa State’s first private tertiary institution, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to offer 16 new undergraduate programmes.

The newly approved courses include Medicine and Surgery, Nursing Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Marine Engineering, Anatomy, and Physiology.

The approvals were confirmed in a letter from NUC’s acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei.

This follows an earlier NUC approval on January 22, 2025, for 14 additional full-time programmes for the 2024/2025 academic year. These include Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D), LL.B (Law), and various education-related courses.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dileep Kumar welcomed the approvals, commending Chancellor Sen. Seriake Dickson for his dedication to expanding access to quality education. He assured prospective students of the university’s commitment to excellence, practical skills, innovation, and global collaborations.
