Presidential Election Tribunal sets September 16 as judgment date

After a four-week hiatus since adjourning for judgment, the Presidential Election Tribunal has at last announced a definitive date for releasing its verdict. A credible source revealed on Sunday that the five-member tribunal, which convened at the Court of Appeal complex in Abuja from May 8 to August 1, has unanimously selected September 16 as the pivotal date for its judgment.

Significantly, this date aligns with the tribunal’s established deadline for delivering its final decision.

Guided by Justice Haruna Simon Tsamani, the tribunal is poised to pronounce judgment on the trio of petitions presented by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), along with their respective presidential candidates—Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi, and Princess Chichi Ojei from Delta. Their petitions contest the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s affirmation of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the victor of the presidential election held on February 25, 2023, in the nation.

Notably, the defendants named in these cases encompass Tinubu himself, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
