Real Madrid team bus involved in accident after Liverpool defeat

Real Madrid’s team bus was involved in a motorway collision on the M40 following their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred when a stationary lorry struck the luxury coach, which was not carrying any players or staff at the time. The bus was being used to transport the team’s kit back to Madrid.

Footage shared on social media showed the coach, unveiled in October 2024 to align with the high-tech branding of the revamped Bernabéu Stadium, halted on the motorway.

Although Real Madrid players and staff typically fly back to Spain immediately after European matches, the team’s bus still makes the overland journey. The M40 is a common route for vehicles traveling from the northwest of England to southern Europe.

This marks the second bus-related incident for Los Blancos in 2024. In February, their team coach collided with a white Toyota during a trip to face RB Leipzig in Germany. That mishap occurred when the squad was forced to land in Erfurt due to an airport strike.

On the field, Real Madrid’s Champions League campaign remains turbulent. Goals from Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo secured the Reds’ win, while Kylian Mbappé’s missed penalty highlighted the Frenchman’s recent struggles.

Midfielder Jude Bellingham defended his teammate, saying, “Kylian is a fantastic player under immense pressure. The penalty isn’t why we lost. I’m confident he’ll deliver many great moments for this club.”

With three losses in five European matches, logistical setbacks like Wednesday’s crash add another layer of challenges to Real Madrid’s difficult season.
