RUGA: More reactions trail suspension of proposed Fulani settlement in Benue, others

Following the suspension of the earlier proposed Ruga settlement project in Benue and other states of the federation, the Benue south ALGON has showered praises on Gov. Samuel Ortom, the PDP for standing by the Benue people.

The ALGON in a statement entitled “SUSPENSION OF RUGA SETTLEMENTS: ALGON ZONE C SALUTES GOV. SAMUEL ORTOM, PDP, BENUE PEOPLE FOR DEFYING GENERATIONAL EVIL” said We, as leaders, acting for and on behalf of the good people of Benue South Senatorial District whom we represent sincerely wish to commend the undeterred courage of the Commander in Chief of Benue Valleys, His Excellency, Dr. Samuel Ortom, the Executive Governor of Benue State in maintaining his defiant stand against the establishment of Ruga settlements proposed by the Federal Government of Nigeria. Our governor’s steadfastness in objecting to Ruga settlements was a sincere reflection of the wishes of Benue people and we are delighted that, he has once again led us to victory from what we ascribe a “generational evil”.

We equally wish to express our profound appreciation to the Benue State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by Hon. John Ngbede as well party leaders, elder statesmen, stakeholders and party faithful for standing against conscious efforts made to expand Fulani operation and control of other ethnicities in Nigeria.

Our immeasurable debt of gratitude goes to the good people of Zone C and the entire Benue people for standing firm behind our determined Governor and ensuring the defence and preservation of our common heritage. It is worthy to note that, the pressure from Benue State played a frontline role in coercing the Federal Government into suspending the idea of Ruga settlements. We, as a people, conscious of our right to self determination are more than ready, to at any point in time, stand for that which is not only right but also just.

Our concerted efforts towards Ruga Settlements no doubt has re-affirmed our unity of purpose in confronting the common enemy. We use this medium to urge our people to stay united in our pursuit of the common good even as God has always been our stronghold against the powers that be.
