Appeal Court upholds Edo Governor Okpebholo’s election, dismisses Ighodalo’s appeal

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the election of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, ruling that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) validly conducted the September 24, 2024 gubernatorial election.
On Thursday, the appellate court upheld Governor Okpebholo’s victory, declaring him the lawful winner of the election.
Justice Mohammed Danjuma, who delivered the judgment, dismissed the appeal brought by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, describing it as lacking in merit.
The court found that neither the PDP nor Ighodalo demonstrated any miscarriage of justice in the earlier ruling by the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal, which had previously dismissed their petition.
The decision was unanimous and handed down by a three-judge panel of the Court of Appeal.
