School principals ordered to return overcharged WAEC, NECO fees in Benue

The Benue State Education Quality Assurance Agency (BSEQAA) has mandated school principals within the state to promptly reimburse SS3 students for any excess charges collected for West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) fees.

The Director-General of the agency, Dr. Francis Terna, issued this directive during his visit to various schools in Makurdi, the state capital, on Thursday. Dr. Terna engaged with SS3 students to verify the amounts they had paid for WAEC and NECO examination fees.

Upon confirming the accurate fee details, he directed school principals to swiftly refund any overcharged amounts to the students. Dr. Terna emphasized the necessity for all schools to strictly adhere to the approved handling charges of N5,000 per student.

He urged school authorities to refrain from engaging in such exploitative practices, cautioning that non-compliance with the government’s directive would result in appropriate sanctions. Dr. Terna reiterated the state government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining high standards and fostering academic excellence.

The Director-General also announced that the agency would continue conducting random visits to schools to monitor their operations. Additionally, he reminded schools of the government’s directive prohibiting the admission of SS3 students during the second term to prevent disruptions to the academic calendar.
