Sevilla sack head coach, Julen Lopetegui after 4-1 loss to Dortmund
Sevilla have parted company with head coach Julen Lopetegui less than an hour after a 4-1 home defeat by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Spanish side have won just once in their opening seven league matches, losing four times and drawing twice.
Lopetegui, 56, leaves Sevilla 17th in the La Liga following their 2-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid on Saturday.
Sevilla have also endured a tricky start to their Champions League group stage, drawing 0-0 with FC Copenhagen and losing 4-0 against Manchester City before the Dortmund defeat.
Sevilla’s poor form is in stark contrast to their impressive season in 2021-22.
Lopetegui’s side finished fourth in La Liga and had the division’s best defence, conceding just 30 goals, and the second-best home record behind champions Real Madrid.
