Tension mounts in Benue community over alleged late-night movement of armed herders
An atmosphere of tension is building in parts of Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State following reports of late-night movement by suspected armed herders heading toward Mbalom community.
Residents in Mbalom and nearby settlements have reportedly gone on alert after local hunters and eyewitnesses claimed they saw a large number of individuals moving across villages on Monday night.
Details shared with Benue Info-pedia by a community source, Mc Oliver De Busy-brain, indicated that the movement was first noticed around 10:37 p.m. near Ormin village.
Hunters said to be on routine patrol allegedly spotted the group advancing in large numbers along a path believed to lead to Mbalom.
Another resident also confirmed the development, stating that the individuals were seen crossing the Naka road at Mgbeta shortly after passing Adaka, before heading toward Ormin village.
The group was further reported to have moved through several communities, including Tse Mom, Tse Uchough, and Tse Imunan, with suspicions that their destination may be Agena Mbalom.
While the purpose of the movement remains uncertain, the situation has triggered widespread concern among locals. Many residents fear a possible attack and are urging security agencies to take swift action.
As of the time of this report, authorities have yet to officially verify the claims. Community members have, however, been advised to stay alert and report any unusual activity.
