Ada Grace Ameh, an actress, comic merchant, a self-motivator, a one driven woman, a great fighter. An entertainment colossus. One who is extremely good at what she does. A woman who planted her feet in the land and stood tall like an iroko tree.

She had the heart that cared completely. She had the smiles that brought so much pleasure. She had the love that brought joy beyond measure.

After all said about the prestigious Nollywood icon, Ada Grace Ameh, until her demise on July 17, 2022.

Ada, one of the stars of genre-defining movies, Domitilla (1996) and Aki Na Ukwa (2003) died on July 17, in Asaba, Delta State at the age of 48.

Her death was a tsunami that attracted waves of condolences from all quarters.

On Friday, August 26, 2022, the remains of the acclaimed Ochanya Ku’Televison were laid to rest in her country home.

In Ogobia Ugboju, a township in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, a throng of mourners defied an early morning downpour to pay their last respect as the remains of Nollywood thespian, were committed to Mother Earth.

The gathering at the burial of Ada Ameh, the late Nollywood actress attracted people from all walks of life, including colleagues from the motion picture industry globally known as Nollywood, politicians, government functionaries, friends, family, kinsmen and women as well as religious leaders who described her death as a colossal loss not just to the Idoma ethnic group but the nation at large.

Actors Guild of Nigeria, President Emeka Rollas in his moving tribute, described the death of Ada as a fallen star.

The Deputy Governor of Benue State, Engr. Benson Abounu, Benue South Senator, Abba Moro and others eulogized the deceased for making the Idoma community proud in her 48 years sojourn on earth.

Born in Ajegunle, in Lagos on May 15, 1974, to an Idoma father and an Ibibio mother, Ada quit school at the age of 14. How she became one of the most highly sought-after actresses in the keenly competitive Nigerian motion picture industry without a degree, and despite having a child at the age of 14, is a study in resilience.

The ‘Ochanya Ku’Televison’ as she is popularly known had lost six of her siblings to death and also her daughter, Aladi Godgift, who died at the young age of 30 on October 20, 2020.

A light from our household is gone, a voice we love is stilled. A place is vacant in our hearts that can never be filled.
She came into our lives, for a little while. She left footprints on our hearts, and we will never be the same.

Indeed, she left us better than she met us.

For Ada Grace Ameh, the movie has ended, but the story lingers on…

What you leave behind is not what is engraved in the stone monument, but what is woven into the lives of others.

Good night Ochanya K’UTelevision.
