Tiv/Jukun crisis: Benue govt. evacuates students from Taraba varsity

Benue State government has evacuated not fewer than 800 students from the Federal University of Wukari, following renewed unrest that has allegedly resulted to the death of two Benue students and a staff of the University.

The Benue State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Dennis A. Ityavyar , disclosed this to newsmen in his office today.

He stated that Government took the step following a distress call from the students of Benue State origin studying at the university.

He explained that the Acting Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu had contacted relevant security agencies to provide protection for students of Benue State origin of the institutions before a team comprising of Director in the ministry, members of students union bodies and security personnel were sent to evacuate the students

Prof. Ityavyar assured parents not to panic as the state government will continue to prioritize the safety of her indigenes while noting that the State Government has taken control of the students’ pathetic situation and expressed optimism that they will meet with their parents safely.
