Two estate agents charged by police for alleged N1.5 Million fraud

On Monday, the Lagos Police brought two estate agents, Lukman Akande and Justice Odion, before the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, accusing them of fraud involving N1.5 million.

The accused, Akande, aged 43, and Odion, 34, were presented without their addresses being disclosed. They face charges of fraud and breach of the peace.

According to Prosecutor Insp. Ayodele Adeosun, the alleged offenses took place on July 26 at 4:00 p.m. at Power Line Atunshe Bus Stop, Era Road, Ijanikin area, Lagos.

Adeosun explained that the defendants are accused of fraudulently obtaining N1.5 million from Mr. Yomi Obafusu under the pretense of renting an unused viewing center.

Despite hiring the center, they allegedly failed to pass the payment on to the property owner.

“The defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace, by refusing to remit the proceeds of the centre to the owner.

“The offences contravene Sections 168 and 315 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” he said.

‎However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

‎The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.‎

He ordered that one of the sureties should be a community leader with two years evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Adekomaiya adjourned the case until Sept.10 for mention.
