US election results: Republicans take Senate Majority as Trump is projected winner

Republicans have regained control of the Senate after four years in the minority, according to Reuters.

This shift grants the GOP significant influence over nominations and upcoming policy debates, regardless of whether former President Donald Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris wins the presidential race.

Fox News reports that the party now holds at least 51 seats, securing an outright majority.

The choice of the next Senate majority leader remains uncertain. Republican leader Mitch McConnell, the longest-serving Senate leader in history, announced earlier this year that he would step down from the role.
