18 dead, including FRSC officer in Sagamu-Ikorodu road accident

A tragic series of accidents on April 5, 2025, in Ogun State claimed 25 lives and left several others injured.
Less than six hours after a fatal crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that killed seven people and injured four, another deadly incident occurred on the Sagamu–Ikorodu road. The second crash resulted in 18 fatalities, including a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer, and left four others injured.
According to Florence Okpe, the FRSC chief Route Commander and Public Education Officer in Ogun State, the first crash on the Sagamu–Ikorodu road involved multiple vehicles.
The collision worsened when a vehicle, suffering from brake failure, veered off course and struck FRSC officials who were conducting a rescue operation at the scene. One of the rescue officers tragically lost their life in the incident.
The injured were rushed to Dasochris Hospital in Gbaga, while the deceased were taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu. Okpe emphasized that the accident was attributed to reckless driving, excessive speed, and brake failure. She urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and road signs to prevent further tragedies.
