A 16-year-old student of Pen Resource Academy, Gombe, Aisha Ahmed Girei, has emerged as the top scorer from Gombe State in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, with a total score of 333.

Girei, an indigene of Adamawa State who resides in Gombe, said consistent study and structured preparation helped her achieve the score, despite a general decline in performance nationwide.

She said her school began preparations for the exam early in SS3, but she only became serious around January, creating a study routine that involved reading at home and in school.

“I didn’t particularly aim for 333, but I had a high target since the course I want to study, medicine and surgery. is very competitive,” she said.

Girei said she was not pressured by her parents to choose medicine, despite her father being a doctor, but was inspired by his dedication to saving lives. She added that she also has interest in software engineering.

On her study habits, Girei said she typically read from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. daily and cut off social media and distractions to focus on her goals.

She credited her parents for their support, especially her father’s constant encouragement and her mother’s guidance at home.

“I feel grateful that my hard work and sacrifices have paid off,” she said, adding that she also hopes to learn catering and venture into entrepreneurship alongside her medical ambitions.

Girei advised fellow students to start preparations early, remain focused, seek help when needed, and stay consistent with their studies.

“Small efforts done every day make a big difference,” she said.
