Gov Mutfwang condemns mob killing of Kaduna travelers in Plateau

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has strongly condemned the killing of eight travelers from the Basawa community in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State, who were lynched by a mob in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The tragic incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Friday when 31 travelers, including men, women, and children, were en route from Zaria to Quan’pan LGA in Plateau for a wedding ceremony. The group, traveling in an 18-seater bus reportedly belonging to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, reportedly lost their way and entered Mangun — a community currently on edge due to recent terrorist attacks.
According to eyewitnesses and preliminary investigations, the travelers arrived in the area around 6:00 p.m. but were tragically mistaken for a threat by locals. In the chaos that followed, a mob attacked the group, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals. Several others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Mangu.
Governor Mutfwang, who visited the survivors and the scene of the attack on Saturday, expressed deep sorrow and outrage. He described the incident as “senseless, condemnable, and avoidable,” emphasizing that insecurity must not be allowed to breed lawlessness.
“I understand the tension our communities are facing, but we must not let fear turn us against innocent people. What happened here is unacceptable,” the governor said.
In a show of solidarity, Governor Mutfwang revealed that he had spoken with Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and the Emir of Zazzau to express his condolences. He also announced that a high-level delegation from Plateau State would visit Zaria to formally commiserate with the victims’ families and the Kaduna State Government.
