80-year-old Ameh Ebute to lead Tinubu’s second-term campaign in North Central
Former Senate President, Senator Ameh Ebute, has been appointed as a key stakeholder in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign structure for the North Central ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Ebute, 80, is expected to bring his decades of political experience and influence to bear as the All Progressives Congress, APC, intensifies preparations for President Tinubu’s second-term bid.
Also appointed into the presidential campaign council is former Deputy Governor of Benue State, Chief Stephen Obekpa Lawani, CON, the Ochagwu K’Idoma.
Lawani was named Zonal Secretary, Stakeholders Mobilisation, North Central, placing him among those expected to coordinate engagement with political leaders and other critical stakeholders across the geopolitical zone.
Ebute’s inclusion is particularly significant given his long history in Nigerian politics and his standing as one of the prominent elder statesmen from Benue South.
The former Senate President, who hails from Benue State, served as President of the Nigerian Senate during the aborted Third Republic.
At 80, Ebute is expected to play an influential role in rallying political leaders, elders and other stakeholders behind Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the North Central.
His appointment alongside Lawani also gives two prominent Idoma political figures roles in the President’s emerging campaign structure ahead of the 2027 polls.
The development comes as the APC moves to strengthen its campaign machinery and consolidate support across the North Central, a region expected to play a significant role in the battle for the presidency in 2027.
Ebute and Lawani are expected to work with other members of the campaign council to deepen consultations, mobilise stakeholders and build support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition across the zone.
