Buhari makes first public appearance, receives new wife in Maiduguri (Photos)
In a heartwarming event on Saturday in Maiduguri, former President Muhammadu Buhari played a significant role as the ‘wali’ or groom’s representative in receiving the wife for Mohammed Babagana Zulum, the eldest son of Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.
The wedding Fatiha took place at the Maiduguri Central Mosque, near the palace of the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi.
Distinguished guests graced the occasion, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governors from various states, National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu, former Governors, serving and former ministers, members of the national and state assemblies, as well as prominent traditional rulers from within and outside Borno State.
During the ceremony, former President Buhari performed religious rites and formally requested the hand of Ummi Kaltum, the bride, on behalf of Zulum’s son. He then presented the dowry to a representative of the bride. The wedding Fatiha was officiated by the Chief Imam of Borno, Imam Zanna Laisu.
The Shehu’s palace witnessed an overwhelming turnout of political leaders, academics, and citizens from across the state, particularly from the APC, who gathered to honor Governor Zulum on this joyous occasion.
Notably, the event marked former President Buhari’s first major public appearance since stepping down from office 53 days ago. He appeared in good spirits, looking refreshed and elegant in his blue kaftan.
The wedding celebration was a moment of joy and celebration for all attendees, as they came together to witness the union of Mohammed Babagana Zulum and his bride. The occasion further strengthened the bond among political leaders and dignitaries, showcasing the unity and camaraderie that exists in the region.
