Farmer loses left hand after alleged herdsman attack in Adamawa
A farmer identified as Hammasumo Ali has lost his left hand after an alleged machete attack by a herdsman in Toungo Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The incident occurred in the Nyashika area of Gumti Ward, according to a statement by Daniel Pogu Toungo, Secretary of Information for Toungo Local Government Area.
The statement said the clash started when Ali tried to stop a herdsman from allowing his cattle to enter his farm and graze.
The disagreement reportedly turned violent, with the herdsman allegedly attacking Ali with a machete.
The attack caused severe injuries to the farmer and resulted in the loss of his left hand. He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Following the incident, the Chairman of Toungo Local Government Area, Hajiya Hauwa Guruja, visited Ali at the hospital.
Guruja expressed sympathy over the farmer’s condition and appealed to residents to avoid actions that could escalate disputes into violence.
She urged members of the community to respect one another’s rights and resolve disagreements through dialogue.
The chairman also called for continued peace among residents to prevent similar incidents and maintain harmony in the community.
