Antony to delay Manchester United return after assault allegations
Manchester United has made it official that Antony will not be rejoining the club following the international break due to ongoing allegations of assault.
The player’s ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, has come forward with claims of being assaulted by the footballer on four separate occasions. Additionally, two other women in Brazil, Rayssa de Freitas and Ingrid Lana, have accused the 23-year-old of physical abuse.
In line with Brazil’s decision to drop Antony from their World Cup qualifier against Bolivia, Manchester United has chosen to take a similar stance by keeping him away from the club.
“Man Utd acknowledges the allegations made against Antony. He will delay his return until further notice in order to address the allegations.
“As a club we condemn acts of violence and abuse”.
In his own statement, Antony said: “I have agreed with United to take a period of absence while I address the allegations made against me.
“This was a mutual decision.
“I want to reiterate my innocence of the things I have been accused of, I will fully cooperate with the police”.
