The youth wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has set a three-day ultimatum for Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to either return to his official duties at the Governor’s Office in Akure or resign.

This ultimatum was declared on Monday at the PDP secretariat in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, during a protest denouncing the prolonged absence of the governor.

A security team, comprising police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the National Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), had earlier cordoned off the PDP secretariat to prevent the demonstration.

Governor Akeredolu has not been visible in the state since his return from medical leave in Germany over four weeks ago, causing concern among the populace.

Tayo Oluyi, one of the PDP youth leaders, emphasized the need for Governor Akeredolu to return to his official responsibilities, stating, “We are saying Mr. Governor must resume back to duty. He can no longer govern us by proxy, we can no longer be hearing that he’s one thing or the other when we’ve not sighted him.”

Oluyi added, “The youth wing of the party is giving Mr. Governor the next 24 hours to address the people of Ondo State, and we are giving him three days ultimatum to resume back to the state.”

The youth wing has warned that if the governor fails to address the people within the stipulated time, they, as the opposition party, will take to the streets of Akure and continue to demand that he either resumes his duties or tenders his resignation.
