President Bola Tinubu has urged the Senate to conduct the necessary screening and confirmation processes for the appointment of Mr. Ola Olukoyede as chairman and Muhammad Hammajoda as secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This request was conveyed in a letter presented during the Senate’s plenary session by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

President Tinubu had previously given his approval for the appointments of Olukoyede as the executive chairman and Hammajoda as the commission’s secretary on Thursday, October 12. Their appointments are initially set for a renewable term of four years, pending confirmation by the Senate.

The appointment of Olukoyede and Hammajoda came after a lapse of nearly four months following the suspension of the former anti-graft agency chief, Abdulrasheed Bawa. According to a statement from Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Olukoyede’s appointment followed the resignation of the suspended Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.
