The Supreme Court delivered its verdict on Thursday, upholding the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the presidential election held on February 25.

The apex court’s ruling effectively dismissed the appeals brought forward by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi.

In a unanimous judgment, a seven-judge panel rejected the opposition’s appeals, which were based on allegations of fraud, violations of electoral laws, and claims of Tinubu’s ineligibility to run for the presidency.

Justice Inyang Okoro, speaking on behalf of the panel, declared, “On the whole, having resolved all the issues against the appellant, it is my view that there is no merit in the appeal, and it is hereby dismissed. The judgment of the court below delivered on September 6th, 2023, affirming the election of the second respondent as the duly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is hereby affirmed.”
