Otukpo massacre: CBN directs banks in Benue to close by 2pm

In a response to the recent surge in security concerns and attacks, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a directive that compels all money deposit banks in Benue State to operate within specific hours. This decision comes following an emergency meeting between representatives of the CBN and the management of the affected banks in Makurdi, Benue State.

Recent incidents of armed robberies in Otukpo town, as reported by SaharaReporters, resulted in casualties, including security personnel, and substantial financial losses. In light of these events, the CBN has implemented restrictions on banking hours as a precautionary measure.

The directive stipulates that all banks and their branches throughout Benue State will initiate their business operations from 8 am to 2 pm on Mondays to Fridays. These limited hours will remain in effect until January 30, 2024, when a review of the security situation will be conducted at the Bankers Committee for potential adjustments.
