Attah MikeGunmen suspected to be bandits raided the headquarters of Zurmi Local Government Area in Zamfara State on Tuesday, unleashing gunfire indiscriminately.
Residents, in a bid to preserve their lives, sought refuge in the surrounding bush, with others securing their homes to evade potential harm or abduction by the marauding attackers, reported Mustapha Zurmi, a resident of the town, to DAILY POST.
Zurmi expressed concern over the insufficient deployment of military personnel to address the crisis, emphasizing that the bandits continued to roam freely, firing at will and moving across different parts of the town.
The exact toll of casualties or the number of individuals abducted remains uncertain, creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among the populace.
“We are grappling with severe security challenges in the area, as the military presence to combat the bandits is inadequate,” he stated, reflecting the widespread apprehension among residents.
Efforts to obtain confirmation from the State Police Command’s spokesman, ASP Yazid Abdulahi, proved unsuccessful, as calls to him went unanswered. The situation in Zurmi Town continues to unfold with heightened concerns about the safety of residents and the efficacy of security measures in place.
